Having a healthy heart is an essential part of being healthy. The heart is the hardest working muscle in the body, essentially acting as our engine. It pumps blood and oxygen around the body at an approximate rate of 70 beats per minute.
More than two million people in the UK are living with heart problems and the NHS reports that heart conditions are responsible for 73,000 deaths in the UK each year.
It is estimated that coronary heart disease affects one in six men and one in ten women in the UK alone. Pippa Middleton describes “Coronary heart disease is Britain’s biggest single cause of death, with more than twice as many women dying from this condition than from breast cancer.”
Middleton, British Heart Foundation ambassador and author of Heartfelt (£19.99) has released a collection of more than 100 heart-healthy recipes.
“Cooking from scratch is a good habit. It can take a little longer but it’s the best way to know what’s in a meal. My mother always says preparing a healthy and tasty meal for the family is one of life’s greatest pleasures – and pressures. With the many demands of family life, even the most enthusiastic cook can struggle to come up with new ideas every week.”

The olives are carefully balanced to give the dish extra depth without adding too much salt,” Pippa describes. “Although light to eat, it’s still satisfyingly filling as the cod is a great source of protein.”
