    Get the right tools
“Get the right tools for the job,” say the experts at Hallmark. “While the everyday household tends to have scissors and tape, if you’re serious about your wrapping, you’re going to want to make sure you have resources in abundance. There’s nothing worse than running out mid-way through your present pile. Fold the sides of your wrapping paper first, to ensure each and every corner and edge is perfectly crisp.”

    Use decorative tape
Got an awkwardly shaped present? “The wrap and tie method is one we’re particularly fond of,” advise the experts at Hallmark. “Rather than attempting an elaborate folding and tucking attempt, simply place the present in the centre of a piece of wrap or tissue paper, and then pull up each of the corners til they meet in the middle. Tie this with a piece of ribbon into a bow and there you have it. If in doubt, and the abundance of tape is more your go to method, make things jazzy with decorative tape, it covers a real multitude of sins!”

    Personalise it
A big trend this year is to tailor the wrapping to the recipient. “Adding personal messages to a beautifully wrapped present makes the gift all the more meaningful,” says Kristina Karlsson of stationery brand kikki.K. “This might be a handwritten matching card or even a small note on a swing tag that’s tied around the gift with ribbon.”

    Be creative
Decorating your gifts is key. Hallmark suggests tying a couple of miniature jingle bells or a sprig of holly or ivy into your bow to add that magic touch. Kristina adds that you could use little Christmas baubles tied together with string to create bunting that wraps around your gift for a look that will truly stand out under the tree.
