Don’t get us wrong, running is a huge stress-reliever and a brilliant cardio workout but if you don’t feel like pounding the pavements this evening, there are other exercises you can do instead that burn even more calories. These five have been recommended by the experts at e-bikes.
Skipping
Skipping isn’t just an exercise for your kids in the playground, it’s a great workout for all the family, burning nearly 1,000 calories per hour. For the best results, use skipping as interval training for a certain number of reps then walk round for 30-60 seconds and repeat.
Swimming
Gliding through the water is a brilliant way to switch off from the world, while also torching calories and building up your endurance. This low impact exercise is a great option for those who can’t take part in some other forms of rigorous exercise as it doesn’t put any pressure on the joints. Swimming for an hour can burn nearly 1,000 calories.
Cycling
Whether it’s speed cycling or cycling at a moderate intensity, this calorie-burning exercise provides a workout for your heart, lungs and blood vessels and gives you the chance to get some fresh air at the same time. A gentle bike ride can burn around 364 calories per hour, but if you’re cycling intensely, you’ll see your calorie burn go through the roof.
Trampolining
This is a brilliant low impact exercise that doesn’t compensate on the intensity. Whether you’re bouncing around with the kids in the garden or taking part in a class, jumping burns around 300 calories every 30 minutes and helps to improve overall muscle tone. And let’s face it, it’s a lot more fun that jogging round the block.
Rowing
This all-over body workout uses nine major muscles groups, including the hamstrings, quads and shoulders. Rowing is one of the most intense exercises you can add to your workout routine and can burn around 700 calories an hour. Just don’t overdo it on your first time out on the river – your arms will never forgive you.
