Ferne McCann: “Exercise Is My Release”

4 MIN READ • 31st March 2021

We caught up with the reality TV star to find out what she eats in a day and her new fitness platform that keeps her in shape.

Do you have a daily routine?

“I can never really have a strict routine as a mum, but if Sunday’s slept in, I’ll try to meditate and then get her ready for nursery.

“I do though like to start each day with one of my health shots because they have a positive impact on my health.

“In lockdown, my daily routine is very different now: Sunday and I do some learning exercises together, we try and go for a walk in the afternoon and then in the evening, I absolutely love to cook and try new recipes.”

What do you eat in a day?

“I have a juice every morning. My favourite is apple, lemon juice, black pepper, fresh chili and turmeric at the moment, which gets my immune system going and makes my skin look bright.

“For lunch, I always try to eat a light meal, so it will be a salad. When it comes to dinner, I’m much more experimental and also try to encourage Sunday to eat different food types.

“I absolutely love my steamed fish and vegetables, with a big spoonful of pesto to enhance the flavour, and that gives me loads of fuel to workout.

“I love to experiment, so it’s usually something different every night at dinner time.

“One of my favourite dinner recipes is creamy prawns with peppers, spinach and smashed potatoes. It’s so delicious and feels like such a treat even though it’s a really balanced meal.”

How does exercise make you feel?

“Exercise is definitely my release. If I’m feeling stressed, overwhelmed or anxious, a workout, even a small one, just makes my body feel great.

“This last year, I’ve really got into my yoga and meditation, which of course is so beneficial mentally and makes my body feel incredible too.

“I used to think I needed to have a big workout, but now, I just need a spare 15 minutes to make me feel great and energised.

“I feel like with the workouts I do now – which are small, achievable things every day – my mind and body can be at one with each other.

“The exercises on Embodyment really do work, and it’s genuinely not just about the way you look, it’s about how you feel.”

How do you unwind?

“I’m big into my self-care! I absolutely love doing a little skincare treatment, meditating, having a long bath, that sort of thing.

“I also love just sitting down with a good Netflix series. I think it’s so important to have balance and to treat yourself where necessary.

“We’re all so overworked at times, and in this strange world we live in at the moment, it’s those little treats that get you through some of the more difficult days!

“I’ve got such a varied social life and also seeing my mum really helps me unwind.”

Who inspires you?

“The women in my life are definitely my biggest inspiration. My best friends inspire me every day and it’s been so difficult not being able to see them in all of this.

“My mum is also my rock, my absolute world – she’s an angel. And of course, my biggest inspiration in the world is my daughter, Sunday.

“Sunday is the reason I strive to be better and work on myself, so that I can inspire her the way she inspires me.”

What can you tell us about your new fitness platform?

“Embodyment is something I’ve been working on for so long and it’s so exciting to finally be able to share it with the world as it grows.

“Embodyment has loads of achievable workout routines for all kinds of people, amazing healthy balanced recipes, yoga and meditation routines and so much more.

“It’s so much more than just a fitness platform. The ethos is about the way you feel, gaining confidence and being the best version of yourself, rather than just the way you look.

“Recently, as part of my Embodyment platform, I’ve been working on a series of Instagram Live’s for my Get Your Groove Back Campaign.

“Get Your Groove back is all about learning to feel confident, especially for women who are a bit older or have had children.

“These include facial workouts you can do to help brighten and tone your skin and tips to boost your bladder and vaginal health.

“It’s so accessible and includes so many different methods that work for everyone to help them feel fantastic.”

What advice do you have for first-time mums?

“I think one of the main things to remember is that you aren’t superwoman, you can’t do it all and you definitely have to give yourself a break.

“If you’re lucky enough to have people around you who will offer you help, take it! You need to look after yourself so that you can look after your baby to the best of your ability.

“So just remember that if you have time, try and eat well, squeeze in some exercise and when they’re resting, make sure you’re doing the same.”

Ferne McCann’s Embodyment is an accessible platform for busy men and women to remain in shape and feel like the best version of themselves.

Embodyment includes achievable fitness routines, guided meditations, delicious healthy recipes and more.
