Five Ways To Get Spring Skin

3 MIN READ • 6th March 2025

From a good diet to the right supplements, these simple steps can make a real difference, says Efamol’s Emma Bullock-Lynch

Achieving healthy, glowing skin is an essential part of spring/summer holiday preparation, but if you want your efforts to be effective before you set off on your travels, it’s important to commit to a skin routine sooner rather than later. If you’ve yet to get started, though, fear not – to help you on your way, Efamol®’s nutritionist, Emma Bullock-Lynch, has pulled together her top five tips for healthy-looking, summer skin…

1. All about the SPF!

Although we should consider applying a level of UV protection all year round, the warmer months are when we need to ramp this up. Ensure you are using a broad-spectrum sunscreen that will protect you not just from UVB but also UVA, and apply it liberally, evenly and regularly. Wearing hats and sunglasses and seeking out the shade are also really important.

2. Drink plenty of water

We all know we should be drinking six to eight cups of water per day, but that’s sometimes easier said than done; however, it’s more important than ever in the summer sun. So, keep a pint of water by your bed, eat plenty of fruit and vegetables that are high in water content, restrict caffeinated drinks, and have a glass of water with every meal.

3. Eat the rainbow

There are some positive studies around eating foods that are rich in flavonols and lycopene. Brightly coloured fruit and vegetables – think cooked tomatoes – are the best source, but green tea and dark chocolate are great options too.

4. Get more sleep

A lack of sleep will not only impact your skin and appearance on the outside but also hinder skin repair and collagen production from the inside. Stay away from screens before bedtime, have a relaxing lavender bath, and try to go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day.

5. Supplement with Efamol’s evening primrose oil

Efamol High Strength Pure Evening Primrose Oil

Efamol® High Strength Pure Evening Primrose Oil comes in two strengths – 500 mg (£11.99) and 1,000 mg (£9.99) – and is available from efamol.com, Amazon, Boots, health food shops and independent pharmacies. It helps support beautifully smooth and nourished-looking skin and can be used by women throughout the month.

Recent research* into the effectiveness of using Efamol®’s exclusive High Strength Pure Evening Primrose Oil shows fantastic results. This latest skin perception study reveals that after taking the supplement, 87% of women said that their skin looked and felt less dry, 84% said their skin felt smoother, and 85% said that their skin felt softer. What’s more, 76% believed their skin looked more beautiful, and 73% agreed that their skin appeared to have a radiant glow.

Efamol® has been producing its unique premium evening primrose oil for over 40 years; it contains an oil extracted from a specific type of evening primrose plant seed called Rigel. Rigel seeds are specially cultivated and contain up to 33% more GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) than other types of evening primrose plant seeds.

Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a balanced diet or healthy lifestyle.

*The research was conducted between 18 September and 26 November 2020 with 77 UK consumers (women) aged 18–65 years. The study was conducted by Cue Consumer Research. The study group took 6 x 500 mg capsules a day for 12 weeks.
