Five Nutritious Add-ins For Your Smoothie

2 MIN READ • 29th April 2021

Smoothies are an ideal way of packing in a variety of fruits, vegetables, vitamins and minerals in one go. While adding some greens and one or two new fruits can help add a bit of variety, there are plenty of nutritious smoothie add-ins that can take your drink to the next level. Better yet, they’re full of nutrients as well as being delicious! Here, Alphagreen, a UK CBD marketplace, shares five health-boosting ingredients to try next time you whiz up a smoothie…

Almonds

With their lovely nutty flavour, almonds are a great way to add thickness to your smoothie. They are also highly nutritious, as they contain healthy fats, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Antioxidants, mostly found in the brown skin of almonds, help to protect the body cells and support heart health. What’s more, research shows that eating almonds may help to lower our overall calorie intake as they are low in carbohydrates and high in protein and fibre.

Raisins

Don’t be deceived: these little, dried fruits are packed with energy, electrolytes, fibre, vitamins and minerals, providing a healthier alterative to sugar-rich foods. While raisins are naturally sweet and do contain high amounts of sugar and calories, they are beneficial when consumed in moderation. Studies also show that raisins can lead to better digestion and skin health, decrease blood sugar and the risk of heart disease, boost energy and prevent anaemia and increased acidity.

CBD Oil

One smoothie add-in you might not have considered is CBD! Taking CBD oil for pain is known to help chronic aches, as well as reduce anxiety and stress and improve sleep – and it’s all thanks to the interaction with different receptors of the cell-signalling endocannabinoid system.

Today, there are various ready-made options of CBD products on the market, including CBD oils, water, tea, chocolate and even protein bars, which are ideal for receiving its positive effects even when you are on the go.

However, when it comes to CBD, make sure to opt for reliable sources like Alphagreen, which offers only high-quality CBD products and alternative health supplements as well as providing the latest research in the alternative healthcare field.

Chia seeds

Recognised as a modern-day superfood, these small black seeds are loaded with fibre, protein, antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, and a decent amount of zinc, potassium, and vitamins B1, B2 and B3. Research also suggests that chia seeds might aid weight loss, lower the risk of heart disease, reduce blood sugar levels and chronic inflammation, and improve bone health. That’s a lot of health benefits for such small seeds!

Linseeds

Another nutritious smoothie addition, linseeds contain omega 3 fatty acids, which are useful for heart health. They’re also rich in natural fibre, which improves the function of the digestive system. Linseeds provide both soluble and insoluble fibres, which may promote weight loss and prevent indigestion

So next time you blend up a smoothie, whether it’s for breakfast or a snack, consider these nutritious add-ins to pack in extra health benefits as well as flavour.
