We caught up with actress and 2020 I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! contestant Jessica Plummer to find out how she deals with confidence issues and what motherhood has taught her.
Do you have a daily routine?
“I wish I could be that organised. With balancing my work, parenting Noa and now home schooling, every day looks completely different.
“So if ever I make a routine, it would be out the window the next day! I do, however, set myself a weekly target of three 20 minute workouts a week.”
What do you eat in a day?
“My favourite meals are smoked salmon, avocado and scrambled egg with toast for breakfast, turkey mince ‘spag bol’ for lunch and a chicken and avocado salad for dinner.
“I’ll also have a 4pm snack in some form of a protein bar or smoothie and one before bed, which will be peanut butter and banana in a pita bread with cinnamon or the same ingredients but porridge.”
How does exercise make you feel?
“The thought of a home work out can be a drag, but I always feel incredible as soon as it’s done.
“I usually always work out in the morning – I feel like it sets my day on a positive. I’m energised, I’m releasing endorphins and I’m ready to take the day on.”
What has motherhood taught you?
“My daughter is 4 years old, but I aspire to be just like her. Children are so free and open-minded.
“Motherhood has put me back in touch with my inner child, for sure. Not to mention it’s taught me a lot of patience!”
How do you like to unwind?
“I love a cup of tea and a chocolate bourbon. Also, I have the headspace app on my phone, which I try and use for at least 10 minutes a day.
“Life can be so hectic; it’s easy to get caught up thinking about the next thing that needs to be done. Connecting with myself by simply concentrating on my breath really helps me to be more present.”
How do you deal with confidence issues?
“This happens a lot and I find it tricky to not be hard on myself. I think being a Virgo and wanting everything to be perfect doesn’t help!
“Firstly, I think it’s good to get out whatever’s in your system. I welcome my tears, always. Secondly I think it’s super important to remember all the positive, incredible things I’ve already achieved and come through.
“Writing lists always help me too.”
Do you have any tips for first-time mums?
“Let go of all expectations. All children are different, so never compare. A child will only be a child for a small amount of time – it goes quickly – so treasure every second of it.
“And remember, you’re not only your kid’s mum, you’re their whole world!”
