Bananas Bananas are a great source of energy, and are packed full of vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates. The yellow fruit also contains the bromelian enzyme, which is believed to stimulate libido. “They are rich in potassium, manganese, and vitamins C and B, which are required for sex hormone production and also improving your energy levels,” says Adam.
Tip
Pop this ultimate fast food in your kit bag to refuel after a sweaty session, or whip up a delicious banana smoothie for breakfast. -
Avocado Avocado is packed full of nutrients and bursting with B vits. “It contains high levels of folic acid, which is necessary for fertility in both women and men,” Adam tells us. Plus, the fruit is rich in vitamins D and E, which help the body release energy from food, and vitamin B6, which increases the production of sex hormones. “Avocado is also rich in thyroidregulating potassium, which helps enhance your libido.”
Tip
Slice into chunks and add to winter salads, or spread over wholemeal bread for a nutritious, tasty post-workout lunch. -
Basil Basil has been believed to stimulate sex drive and boost female fertility for centuries. “It’s the smell of fresh, sweet basil that people find irresistible,” Adam points out. “Basil also produces a general sense of wellbeing and promotes circulation.” What’s more, the fragrant herb is rich in essential oils that can help to ward off bloating and relieve you of stress, so you’ll naturally feel more attractive.
Tip
Basil is often associated with Italian food, but it tastes great in curries and stir-fries, too – use in its raw, most nutritious form. -
Dark chocolate Dark chocolate is often associated with romance, and for good reason! “It contains phenylethylamine and serotonin, which your body stores and releases when you feel passionate,” says Adam. “The neurotransmitter, anandamide, is also found in chocolate; this combines with the other compounds to further enhance those good feelings.” And, chocolate contains more antioxidants than red wine, plus magnesium, which all support your immune system.
Tip
Stick to small pieces of dark chocolate to reap the health benefits and to keep extra calories to a minimum. -
Strawberries Strawberries are rich in antioxidants, such as vitamin C, which optimises blood flow to your reproductive organs. “They have a lower glycemic index than most other fruit, meaning they deliver sustained energy,” explains Adam. “Unlike most other fruit, their zinc-rich seeds get eaten, and when zinc is readily available, the female body prepares itself for sex quicker than usual.”
Tip
Snack on the juicy berries to keep hunger pangs at bay. Why not add a few to your banana smoothie for a super-drink?
